The “W” Union Square would be our modernized historic hotel for this particular trip to New York City. It’s well situated on the beautiful Union Square Park in the middle of where you want to be in Manhattan. Our visit to Munich happened to be timed with Oktoberfest; a period when the hotels fill up and room rates can get surprisingly expensive. A sample of room rates around Munich had prices around 400€ during the famous fall beer festival. Hotel selection in Venice is exceptionally tricky. There is limited inventory and rooms are often small and expensive. After some research, we ended up at the Westin Europa Regina Venice. We were able to obtain a suite upgrade to a larger room, an excellent included breakfast thanks to elite benefits and an excellent anniversary dinner on a private table at the hotel. During our stay in Malta, we would end up at the best offering in the Starwood / Marriott chain; the Westin Dragonara Resort in St Julians Malta. The Grosvenor House has been our go to property in the Dubai Marina. It’s excellent location steps from the Dubai Marina, upscale accommodations and a vast combination of room configurations makes this property a win in my playbook. The St Regis Mauritius has been our “go to” property while visiting Mauritius. It has a a terrific location with the property set in the shadow of the giant Le Morne mountain in a peaceful corner of the island. Our return to the Hyatt Regency Johannesburg had us staying in an excellent Regency Suite that we were able to upgrade into with World of Hyatt upgrade instruments.
