Trans Maldivian Airways runs the propellor plane network of transfers between the various islands of the Republic of the Maldives. The experience of flying over the coral atolls of the maldives is a special one and likely one that you will not quickly forget. Our return trip from The W Maldives back to Male Noovilu Sea Plane terminal afforded us similar views along with a great adventure travel experience.

This post is one chapter on my trip to the Republic of the Maldives. This trip was enhanced through Marriott Bonvoy Elite Status, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan and Air Canada’s Aeroplan. For more information on how this trip was booked, please see our trip introduction. For other parts of the trip, please see this index.

Review: The St Regis Maldives Lounge, Malé Noovilu Sea Plane Terminal, Maldives

Earlier in the trip, we enjoyed a five day stay at The W Maldives. For the second part of our trip, it was time to head onto the St Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort. Our travels to the St Regis Maldives was our most anticipated luxury travel experience for this particular trip.

Checking into the St Regis Maldives:

We arrived into the Malé Noovilu Sea Plane Terminal on a Trans Maldivian Airways flight from the W Maldives. I wasn’t given any instructions on where we would meet our representative from the St Regis Maldives.

After arriving on our inbound sea plane flight, we met our St Regis Maldives Vommuli representative in the arrivals area of the Malé Noovilu Sea Plane terminal. We were walked over to the Trans Maldivian Airways check in area within the Noovilu Sea Plane Terminal and checked in.

Our checked and cabin bags were weighed. Unlike our experience checking into the W Maldives, we had no overage charges.

After completing the check in process, we were led upstairs to the St Regis Maldives Vommuli lounge, which was located on the top floor of the Noovilu Sea Plane Terminal building.

We were led inside an intimate and private lounge that was miles quieter than the nearby Trans Maldivian Airways Coral Lounge. We were escorted through the lounge reception directly to a choice of seating.

The St Regis Maldives Vommuli departures lounge in Malé Noovilu Sea Plane Terminal was decorated in upscale greys accented by coral blues. The lounge was designed to seat about twenty people in both lounge seating and work spaces.

We ended up in the centre most portion of the lounge. Despite being in the centre, there was minimal lounge traffic as all were generally arriving or departing on the same seaplane flights.

There was also a small outdoor patio area with a view over the sea planes pontoons at the terminal. Given that we were in the lounge in the middle of the day, many of the sea planes were out flying making the docks a little less crowded than when we visited after arriving off an international flight early in the morning.

It is always a great view from this facility. St Regis Maldives likely paid for a premium to have a proper sea plane view from their lounge. We enjoyed a spectacular view of the sea planes while we waited for our departing flight.

The lounge also offered the opportunity to use private showers. While this was great to have access to, it wasn’t something that immediately came to mind when arriving or departing.

Once we had settled inside the lounge, we were presented with an iPad menu of drinks and light snacks. Both the drinks and snacks were presented on a complimentary basis. Like all other airline lounges in the Maldives, the menu was “dry” and alcohol was not offered or served.

I ended up ordering an Evian water. I felt a little bit guilty ordering it given the carbon cost that it must have had had flying all that way from France.

We started our check in process and room registration in the lounge. Unfortunately, the lounge attendants had a small issue with the credit card payment machine and they were not able to complete it in the time allotted.

While this was occurring, we watched a personal video from our assigned butler. The St Regis Maldives offers butler services to all guests. The video included an personal address by name, spouses’ name and Marriott Elite level status. It was a unique touch and a nice introductory way to set the mood.

Although we were initially told that we were going to be on a 12:30 AM flight, we ended up getting moved to an earlier flight with a departure time of 11:40 AM. This meant that we only spent about 30 minutes in the lounge. This wasn’t a bad thing, as it would mean we’d get to spend more time on the resort, rather than waiting in a sea plane terminal building in Malé.

We departed on a Trans Maldivian Airways Malé – Vommuli flight for a great six day stay at the St Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort.

Returning to the St Regis Maldives Lounge Malé:

On our returning flight on Trans Maldivian Airways Vommuli – Malé, we were transported up to the St Regis Maldives Malé Lounge, prior to departing the Maldives.

We had approximately four hours prior to our international departure from the Maldives on Qatar Airways Q Suites Business Class Malé – Doha. The St Regis Maldives took great care of us, and provided us time and access to the St Regis Maldives Malé lounge until we were ready to head over to the Malé Velana International Airport for our departing international flight.

During our returning stay, we were presented with evening menus for snacking. Instead of bakery items, there were more substantial snacks on the menu that included beef burgers, pizza slices and chicken quiches.

There were also a large amount of non alcoholic beverages available for consumption. All items were made available on a complimentary basis.

Since you never turn down a free meal in the Maldives, I ended up ordering a beef burger and a desalianted Coca Cola. There Maldives remains one of the few places in the world that creates Coca Coca from sea water and uses desalination in order to remove the sea salt from the beverage. Make sure you check out the sea water listed on the ingredients on the can if you find yourself in the Maldives.

The beef burger was a little messy on the hands, but it was pretty good for a beef burger. MrsWT73 enjoyed a slice of pizza. However, it was very much of the frozen variety and not all that exciting.

We would later transfer to our departing flight of the Qatar Airways Q Suites Malé – Doha, courtesy of the St Regis Maldives team.

My Thoughts on the St Regis Maldvies Lounge Malé:

The St Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort recognizes the value in having a private dedicated lounge for his distinguished guests.

The St Regis Maldives Lounge Malé offers every amenity possible designed for guests comfort while travelling to and from the resort. In addition to nice surroundings, the lounge offers a nice sea plane view and the opportunity for some free snacks and nibbles.
