Region Visit: Cuzco and The Sacred Valley, Peru

On arrival to Cuzco, Peru, we checked into Cuzco as a base of operations for our exploring around the Sacred Valley. Cuzco is a terrific and intriguing town which is well worth the time spent exploring it’s alley ways.

Region Visit: Cuzco and the Sacred Valley, Peru

Central Cuzco itself was a wonderful little city. I had expected a really touristy town, but it did keep some of its charm. We stuck to the touristed areas and ventured around to some ruins outside on day tours.

Visiting The Sacred Valley:

The next day, we took our guided tour up towards the Sacred Valley. The tour was a full day loop that started from Cuzco and took us on a tour through the Sacred Valley, Urubamba, Ollantaytambo Ruins. We ended the day at Cuzco.

Our first stop of the day was up in Urubamba. It felt like the start of the Sacred Valley. Indeed, it had very picturesque mountains surrounding it.

Visiting the site of Ollantaytambo:

We eventually continued onto the Ollantaytambo Ruins. The Ollantaytambo Ruins were an archeological site in the Sacred Valley on the Inca Trail. There were an absolute highlight – fabulous ruins in the Sacred Valley that you could spend an afternoon exploring. No railings with a long drop down so watch your children!

We were able to spend many hours climbing over the ruins.

After a healthy mountain clamber at 2,792 meters (9,159 feet), we headed off back towards Cuzco. The area contained very picturesque scenery with pleasant high alpine mountain ranges

The Sacred Valley outside of Cuzco, Peru is one of the more beautiful easily accessible mountain ranges. We really appreciated our visit through this part of the world.
